FFOs for August
I concentrated on getting some FFOs this past weekend in honor of the August Check-in for the FFO gallery over at Ten Hour Stitcher. Thanks for hosting, Rachel, and for giving me the motivation to get some thing(s) done!
First the easy one: the Blackbird Designs Quaker Strawberry from JCS Ornaments 2006. I finished it using the same lace as is recommended in BBD’s Deck the Halls but added the cute jewelry finding on top instead of the fluffy ribbon on top. I’m quite please how it came out.
Next is The Sunflower Seed “A Star A Star” also from a past issue of JCS Ornaments. I was looking for fabric for something else and found the perfect thing for this one, so I finished it up. I love this carol, I love this design! I will really enjoy it on my tree!
Finally, the fussy one, Hearts at Christmas by The Common Thread. Getting fabric wrapped around a heart shape is VERY HARD for me. I tried the recommended gathering technique as opposed to the lacing technique I used before. I gave it a lot of extra padding to wrap around to make it puffier and help with that top valley part. Stitching the back and front together helped smooth out the bumps. The rest of the finishing was straight forward. I love this design. It is so elegant.
That’s what I’ve got for you! No biscornu, sorry! I’ll work on that for the end of the month!
Wow, gorgeous stitching and finishing! I especially love the heart!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful stitching Mary! I love A Star A Star.
Thank you so much! I am SO happy how it came out. I love how the gold rick rack I had is just the right bright gold to go with the rainbow gallery gold thread in the rays. It really was a lucky match!
The strawberry is adorable and I like the Star design too. But the Heart is just wonderful and so well finished. Worth all the time and effort you put in to it.
They all turned out so satisfying! I was really happy with the whole batch this month!
Thank you for participating in this month’s FFG SAL with three fabulous and very different finishes. The strawberry is adorable, the Christmas ornie looks fantastic edged in gold ric-rac, and I really admire the time and patience it must have taken to FFO the beautiful heart. Three pieces to be very proud of indeed. 🙂
Why thank you! I love your SAL, it is such a good motivator!
Mary, I love them all but my favorite is the one with the hardanger. It is an absolute beauty! RJ@stitchingfriendsforever
Thank you! I know! The heart kit was a total impulse buy on Etsy-I just thought it was gorgeous! And I’m SO pleased with how it came out. It was a very good quality kit!
Gorgeous finishes!! Love them all.
