September Sampler Soiree

Have you heard about this excuse for directed stitching? It is the September Sampler Soiree. I heard about it on Instagram. I decided, because I have a reproduction sampler I have been meaning to work on this year, this event is the perfect reason to do that. The sampler is I, Bathya, from Hands Across the Sea. I took the workshop with Nicola Parkman last summer.

This is a stunning reversible sampler. It will be a big challenge but I have access to the class videos and the beginning is all satin stitch. Yay! Here is my start from last night:

I will try to work on it a little bit every day in September. There are 11-12 letters in the top 2 rows. Then a band of white work. I hope to have the top, white stitching done this month. I will probably just post the daily progress on Instagram, and then when I really have something to show and say about it check in here. If you want to follow there my name is marysthread. And if you’re on instagram, feel free to leave your name in the comments and I will be sure to add if you if I haven’t already!

  1. Oh my Mary…that looks like such a hard and big project. I wish you well and know you will do a wonderful job. I can’t wait to see how it progresses. RJ@stitchingfriendsforever

    1. It will be a challenge, that’s for sure! I’m not sure I could have any confidence with it had I not taken the workshop. I learned so much! But I really want to take it on. It is so interesting.

  2. That looks incredibly challenging!! Good luck and looking forward to seeing your progress.

    1. Yes! But it’s just a fascinating project! How all the stitches are reversible…it is mind blowing. Usually the backs on my works…I’m not too picky. I try to make it “not lumpy” for framing. But this has to be perfect. It will make me a better stitcher. 🙂

  3. Oh isn’t that pretty! It is going to be gorgeous Mary. I always forget to go over to IG but I will try to remember, if not I will wait until you post here.

    1. I sure am! That’s part of the challenge! It’s really cool and seeing both sides of the finished version at the workshop was incredible!

  4. That is a beautiful design. I am also stitching a Hands Across The Sea sampler this month but as it is one of the Little Gem series I hope to post a finish on Instagram at the end of the month.
