In the good old summertime

Here in Arizona it is hot, hot, hot! The heat really saps my energy! And, with the kids’ summer activities, I don’t have blocks of time for stitching, alas! However I do snatch moments here and there on a variety of small projects. Little by little it adds up, and I realize have quite a lot to show!

First, my “Joy” ornaments are done:

My Star Santa awaits a few more beads:

These were made for the Christmas Ornies SAL (here). This month’s theme is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, so I have a Merry Gentleman (Santa of course is the Merriest gentleman ever, right?) and 2 “Joys” for the “comfort and JOY” in that carol.

Speaking of Joy, I’ve made a little progress on June from Joyful World:

Next to the beehive where my needle is parked there is a great big bear. He is just so big I don’t want to stitch him! He will take several sessions! I am such a whiner! 🙂

And here’s my Just Nan Baby Celebration which I’ve really focused on this week:

So much detail and so many colors in this one! That’s what makes it beautiful of course but also so time consuming! It seems I’ve hardly made any progress even though I feel like I did spend a lot of time on it!

My other WIPs take too much concentration so they have to wait for the kids to be back in school. But my goodness are they building up! I don’t think I’ve ever had so many!

I “needed” another easy project and so picked up one out of my “do in 2018” pile: Charmed Sampler by Raise the Roof. Now this is super cute. And I do not wear my charm bracelet so it will be useful to display my charms on the sampler instead. Here I am so far:

I’m stitching as charted, and the colors are so fun! The verse says “Some wear a charm on ear or arm I sewed mine here to see all year.” Here are the charms to put on it:

There is a stitched charm bracelet across the top and bottom so there should be plenty of room for all of them!

I’ve been working on some finishing too but I’ll save that for next time as nothing is quite 100% done yet. See you back here soon!

Joy Times Two

Here it is July and I find myself working on two “Joyful” Christmas ornaments. Here is series 3-2 from the Victoria Sampler Learning Collection, this one featuring Bargello. (I haven’t gotten to the Bargello part yet):

And here is a fun Mill Hill ornament called Jeweled Joy just waiting for beads:

I’ll tell you why I’m making these when they’re done, which should be soon!

Friday Finishing (My June Small)

I’ve developed a bad habit of not finishing my works. I know I’m not the only one with this problem but for me it’s starting to seem unjust to all the time I’ve spent stitching! And I had an impetus this month-I finished stitching Lounging Hare from the class I took with Sherri Jones in 2016!

And so I really wanted to mount it on the box! I did it!

It still needs the cord trim but overall I’m pretty pleased! Now to do the tool kit that goes in the box! Look for that 5 or 6 years from now! Ha!

While I was at it I decided to go back and finish some other neglected projects so here’s a little finishing flashback post for you today.

First I did what turned out to be an easy little job:

This is the Little Cardinal from Crossed Wing Collection’s Silken Wings series. It is on silk gauze. I stitched it last year and finally have it mounted in a Tim Holtz pocket watch. Here’s the inside to show how it works:

It was super easy. The back just pops off, I gathered the stitching around a little cardboard circle padded and lined with cotton batiste. Next time I will leave off the padding because the watch has un-remove-able glass so there’s no point to padding it-it just mashes against the glass. If you have a small enough small this make a very cute easy display for it!

And I finally framed my Plum Street Fraktur Friends (stitched last summer) and Drawn Thread’s For the Birds (stitched in 2016). Here they are hanging up happily instead of languishing in the drawer:

I still enjoy these stitches so much! I’ll be glad to see them every day!

I stitched a little this week too, mostly on the GPA English Sampler Pillow. Here it is so far. I love everything about it!

This one will be simple to finish off-it’s stitched on a pre-made pillow and I’ll just have to stuff it and sew up the bottom!
