Starts, finishes, and right in the middle: not in that order.

I picked up the Heirloom Nativity last week. I’m trying to get the bands done between the shepherds and kings before July. Then I will be about half done with this thing if you don’t count the hardanger at the bottom. That will feel like an accomplishment!

I need to add the beads to the lace, finish the vine, and figure out the stitch between the scotch stitch and the vine. It seems complicated-at least too much to do when I was tired watching tv.

I love the Gloriana Bellagio (rainbow) silk! Gorgeous!

Last week I finished April for Joyful World-except for the ground. Still thinking how I will approach this with a different specialty stitch in the ground on each month.

I also finished the stitching on the little snow girl:

Just need to put her together.

I started my Facebook Smalls summer challenge, Petit Coeur Blue by Atalie. This is small-it’s in a 4″ hoop.

This silk is lovely too! It’s from Atalie called Bora Bora.

I started my next ornies SAL-the theme for July is animals and this is Mill Hill’s Cat in the Box.

It’s got a lot of blue. So far not as interesting as many of the other ones I’ve done but I know the end result will be cute. I have 3 Mill Hill ornaments with cats- they are all orange cats so they remind me of my cat Kiwi. That’s why I got them.

I declare this week FFO week! Let’s see how much damage I can do to the stack of FOs!

Stitching time

I had a 3 hour blood test today which meant an unusual amount of daytime stitching time. I was actually looking forward to it in order to have that stitching time! I didn’t get anything finished, but made some progress on a couple things:

First, my June small which is this adorable little Riolis kit. It is on plastic canvas which at first I thought was pretty cheesy but after working with the nice fuzzy soft yarn-floss Riolis gives you, it turns out well.

I like this fuzzy yarn-floss. Not for all the time but it is very cozy to use and gives the effect of that needlepoint on plastic canvas but a bit more delicate and nice.

Next I worked on April for Joyful World (yes. I am behind.) I must have worked very slowly because I look at it and feel I have almost nothing to show for the amount of time I spent on it. However, it is getting there. Another session or two will get it done.

You see I decided to make a brown squirrel, instead of gray. The bunny was already enough gray for this design. I think the pink flowers on the right are too pale so I am going to redo them in the brighter pink you are supposed to use in their centers-just flip flop those colors.

Finally I also have to show you this little freebie from Log Cabin Designs, Noel, which I actually finished last month. I used my own colors: GAST Dried Thyme and Cranberry and I used beads instead of Xs for the berries.

This is for the ornies SAL; the theme for June is “words.”

I have a ton to FFO. I think I will have to give some hours to finishing this summer. Now that’s a post you can look forward to!

Itty Bitty Small for May

The last Friday in May this year really snuck up, being on the 26th this month! Good thing I picked such a teeny tiny small! 🙂 So…here it is for my contribution to the Smalls SAL hosted over at Stitching Lotus (thanks, Heather!).

I Love Strawberries by The Sweetheart Tree

It really is small at 2.5″ by 1.75.”

Now, I haven’t done any serious backstitching in a while and if you’ve ever stitched a Sweetheart Tree design, you know she just loves backstitching! So I was super glad this was so tiny-when I started I thought, this backstitching is going to take me as long as the cross stitches! But it was ok.

My only annoyance is, I did not figure on the flower beads being so big and chunky on the 32 ct I used (she recommended 28 ct). I ordered some smaller flower beads that seem better but I’m not sure I want to redo it or if I’ll just do this quick stitch a second time.

Anyway my finishing plan is to frame it, because that’s how I saw it in the shop and I thought the mini framed piece was just charming.

I also just about finished up March and got a good start on April, like I planned for Joyful World. Woo!

(I need to decide on a fancy stitch for the water)

I changed the bunny from white to brown and I will change the squirrel to gray I think.

No work done on my big things, I will get to one or the other in June, but I expect to have a lot less stitching time this summer with the kids home from school and no car pick up line to wait in!

Here’s a PSA for good measure-Victoria Motto is hosting another great giveaway this month! Absolutely stunning colors!
