We are halfway to Christmas, Friends! I hope you are having a good, peaceful Advent!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don\u2019t have a new stitch from me to share but this year I inherited some of my Grandma\u2019s Christmas stitches and I\u2019ve been saving them to share with you now! I have these cute little ornaments which my mom finished for me\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n

And this beautiful, well loved Prairie Schooler pillow. <\/p>\n\n\n

Grandma stitched quite a few Prairie Schooler Santa\u2019s and there were a few pillows and also some framed pieces. I\u2019m so happy to be giving these ones a home and stewarding them into the next generation of enjoyment!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jo asked us to share our essential Christmas treats this year, called \u201cafters\u201d where she lives but we call dessert! For my family, on Christmas, it has to be cookies!! I always make at least 4 and sometimes up to 8 kinds! Plus there\u2019s always a few special bought cookies! I shared my cookie plate last year so since I haven\u2019t baked anything yet this year I\u2019ll share it again\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the top\u2026the spritz cookies are with the red and green sprinkles and the cherry bits. In between are bought cookies: Trader Joe\u2019s mini mint stars and baseler brunsli stars. On the bottom from left to right\u2026 fudge, snowballs, and pecan tassies. Yum!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We can\u2019t have Christmas without Spritz, Pecan Tassies, snowballs (aka Mexican Wedding cakes or Russian Tea cakes) and Fudge! If I have time I also make peanut brittle, mint brownies, cut out sugar cookies, and gingerbread. If I\u2019m very ambitious I\u2019ll make peppernuts (pfeffernusse) from an old family recipe. If I am very very ambitious I might make a gingerbread house. I haven\u2019t decided what of those extras I\u2019ll do this year besides peanut brittle. But I do want to try a new thing and make toffee this year. Several of us love it and I hear it is not too hard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For bought cookies I always<\/em> get (from Trader Joe\u2019s) the mini mint stars, which are like the old Girl Scout Thin Mints, and Lebkuchen. I need to scoot over there today to get those before they are sold out for the season! One year I drove 1 1\/2 hours round trip to a different TJs when my local one was sold out of the mint stars, they are that important to my husband! I can\u2019t always find the baseler brunsli but I\u2019m quite fond of them if I do see a box in a specialty grocery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
