I finally settled down to do some finishing this weekend. I don’t want to wait too much longer or I won’t have time to display these with my fall decorations. Here is the mid-project mess…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parts of the finishing are fun. I like painting. (note how the pumpkin got painted from white above to orange that matched the project on the Black Kitty below.) I like putting everything together. Parts are annoying. I don’t like measuring! Even when I try really hard I almost always have to make adjustments! I don’t like how long it takes to hunt up the perfect supplies, only to second guess myself. I still wonder if I should have done something different with Every Leaf…the fabric seems too bright and busy. But it was so hard to find a good coordinating leaf fabric and I had ordered several. Look how many cutting implements it takes to do finishing! Each tool has a different job and we don’t use fabric scissors for anything except fabric of course!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funnily enough, it’s often the things I don’t plan out too much that I end up liking the best. This time, it’s Black Kitty from Bent Creek\u2019s Littles series:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I found these pumpkin place card holders at Hobby Lobby and while originally intending it for the Halloween Mini (but the scale is wrong; I’m hunting for one of those mini candle screen displays), it turns out perfect for the Black Kitty. I did need to paint the white pumpkin orange to match but that was easy. And I bought 2 so now I want to stitch another Black Kitty in reverse so they can look at each other or maybe another Halloween design for the other one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Halloween Mini is good, but I need a way to hold it up. I have some ideas but the main bit of the finish is done and I like it a lot. Here is a new little display I put together with them and I love how cute it is!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The display needs more fall cross stitch. I will get right on that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, here is Emily\u2019s Bliss by Summer House Stitch Works. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suggested finish was a drum, also very cute, but I wanted to see the whole design at once. I love the colors. The finish is growing on me…it is very bright. After making it up I thought maybe I should have dyed the finishing fabric to tone it down a little but it’s too late for that! I did go ahead and use the felt leaves that came with the kit, and added a wood button and some Pom Pom trim. I think it looks great on the mantel, but perhaps my mantel needs more stitching and less fluffy leaves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, it is how it\u2019s going to be for this year. My efforts at home decorating are not 100% yet but I try! Enjoy the last week of October, friends! Can\u2019t wait to show you my plans for the rest of the year!
