FFO Gallery October 2021

I wish I had something new and exciting to share this month but all I was able to do was pop my little sampler into a frame:

I was going to try to make a hand painted frame like was shown in the model, but when I found this little “burled wood” one (I’m not sure it is real burled wood but it’s a good impression) it was perfect. I’m going with it. And here is a picture of my dear Grandma whose name I put on it.

She died five years ago at the great age of 94. She was sharp of mind and sweet of temper right up to the end. Her folks were German immigrants and she grew up on a farm in Iowa (it is still there!) but she herself was a nurse her whole life as well as an avid stitcher and quilter. I was named Mary Ruth after both my grandmas so this grandma is my namesake for my middle name.

To see more finishes, head back to Rachel’s blog, The Ten Hour Stitcher. And be sure to check back with me next month when I have a lot more done!

  1. It’s a beauty and so meaningful because of your love for your grandmother, Mary. My great-grandparents on my dad’s side were both German immigrants in the late 19th century, too. Such a hard-working bunch! Enjoy your week ahead.

  2. What a lovely tribute to your Grandmother, the frame is perfect for the sampler. Lovely stitching!

  3. You found the perfect frame for this sampler. Lovely photo of your grandma too.
My “Mary” middle name comes from my Mum and both my Great-Grandmas. It’s gone down to my little cousin as her first name. I had boys or I would have used it!

    1. Oh how nice to know another Mary! There are not so many these days. I know of only one or two amongst my Catholic friends’ children, but no one in my own generation! We gave our daughter the middle name Marie as a nod to Mary because we thought it sounded better with her first name, Elise.

  4. The frame is perfect for the sampler. Thanks so much for sharing the photo of your grandmother. It’s a lovely tribute to her.

  5. Finally caught up on your blog!
Thanks for continuing to host the Smalls SAL and for regularly participating in the FFG SAL.
One thing that struck me as I was catching up is just how many starts and finishes you have had in 2021. Granted, a lot of them are relatively small but, even so, your bucket list must be almost empty by now, unless you’ve secretly been adding more! Keep up the good work!! 🙂

    1. Thanks Rachel! And you’re welcome! Yes I have done a great deal of stitching this year. I feel like it’s been a productive year! But I was taking stock today and found I still have only done about 1/2 my list! That’s ok! I am making plans for next year already and have added and deleted to make a new list! It’s so exciting to look forward to it!
