Advent Calendar Day 23: TA DAH! A Big Happy Dance

In honor of Day 23 of Jo’s Advent Calendar, I present to you my completed Heirloom Nativity from The Victoria Sampler! Finished this morning at 7:23 am, I started it in November of 2016:

This piece has been a joy to work on. It gave me almost no trouble. I used the floss packs from The Victoria Sampler, which was mostly silk with some overdyes. I really got into using the silks, discovering how beautiful are Gloriana silks! The “rainbow” bands are Bellagio by Gloriana.

One reason I love this piece so much is the sweet verse on it. I really admire how Thea is a poet and a designer! (I don’t know if she is officially a poet but she does write very lovely verses for her designs!)

The combination of picture sections, whitework, specialty stitch bands, and floral scrolls kept the whole project interesting through to the end!

Then of course there was the Hardanger section! This is my first work with Hardanger so there was a lot of breath-holding, and video-tutorial watching, and undoing, and learning as I went. It is not perfect by any stretch, but I know it is my first work so I can proud of it!

And here it is! All finished! Yay! Thank you for letting me brag on it here in my Advent post. When I joined, I told Jo I would have something good to show, and I did it! I hope you agree!

Last of all, our question to answer is “What is your favorite Christmas movie?” Mine is, hands down, White Christmas. I love the music, I love the story, it is so nostalgic, and I am the daughter of a soldier so it resonates for me on that level, the appreciation shown to our military members. Plus, as someone who grew up with white Christmases who now lives in Arizona, it means more to me now than ever! Thank you Jo for again hosting the Advent Calendar!

I wish all of you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Blessed New Year!

I will see you back here Friday for our last Smalls link up of 2019! (And yes, I plan to continue in 2020!)
