Best Laid Plans

I wanted to finish my Italian Peacocks Purse last week. Normally I should have been able to do that! But, “Ha ha ha,” said Life. And I should have known better anyway! We had a birthday in our family. On Wednesday night I was putting up decorations. On Friday night I was making the cake. Here is the cake. The request was for a husky dog cake. Pretty cute, right?

I only was able to stitch a little bit on Thursday so needless to say, I did not finish my peacocks. I decided to forego the Blackbird Designs Weekend SAL to work on the peacocks instead. I still did not finish them. I needed Monday too. Now it is done! Voila!

I found another blog with a tutorial for this very purse, in Russian. Thank goodness for Google translate! I think I can figure it out and anyway the pictures are very helpful. We’ll see what I can do with it. There are a lot of steps to the finishing including the fancy tassels. I haven’t decided what I want to make them out of. I don’t think I want to use several skeins of silk floss-that is a bit too indulgent even for me. I will try to see if I have a good color of cotton overdyed floss, or maybe use a couple colors of DMC. Anyway it is a good thing this will be a summer project! I think it will take at least a whole day!

  1. That cake is amazing!
The peacocks look gorgeous too. I love the splash of bright white. Hope you can fathom out the instructions and find the right thread for the tassel too. Maybe some off-brand cotton rather than use DMC?
