WIP MAYnia #1! Sampler of Stitches!

Many stitchers on social media do the MAYnia event, which I think is originated as a challenge to start a new project every day in May. Goodness. 31 starts would make me very stressed. I am encouraged by those who modify it to make a challenge that works for them. I will be one of those and work diligently on one of my active WIPS for 3-4 days in a row in a effort for “visible progress” this month. I will call it WIP MAYnia. Anyway, enough chit chat. Here’s the first project, The Drawn Thread’s Sampler of Stitches.

On Friday I started here…at some point I had added the T and got started on the tree, but I don’t think I showed you that yet.

I entertained briefly the notion of swapping out all the purple for a couple shades of pink and peach. I decided it would be too much work. I just wonder if the whole color scheme is too bold. Oh well. It ISN’T dull and muted, and that was what I was trying to avoid. And it does photograph well, it is just brighter in person!

Anyway! Over the weekend, I finished the T and U sections. YAY! Some of the stitches were very time consuming like that tall tree done in “thorn stitch” and the purple grid under the T which is a combination of upright cross and upright rice stitch. I have finished the whole first column on this sampler and it is 1/3 finished! I have some catching up to do to get it on track for a finish this year. I guess I am one month behind. That’s not impossible!

Oh, you’re almost to the finish line on this beautiful piece, Mary! Well done! Love the tiny charms that you’ve added, too. I could NEVER have 31 pieces on the go–I am pretty much a monogamous stitcher with one large and one small project going at once. I think your method sounds much more doable 🙂

I love this project! I love an alphabet and I love speciality stitches which go with each letter too.
I’ve kept my WIPs to below 20 this year which is good. Several of them are not very active and I hope to whittle them down over the next few years. Long-term goal is fewer than 10 active WIPs.
