2022 Advent Blog Hop Day 12

We are halfway to Christmas, Friends! I hope you are having a good, peaceful Advent!

I don’t have a new stitch from me to share but this year I inherited some of my Grandma’s Christmas stitches and I’ve been saving them to share with you now! I have these cute little ornaments which my mom finished for me…

And this beautiful, well loved Prairie Schooler pillow.

Grandma stitched quite a few Prairie Schooler Santa’s and there were a few pillows and also some framed pieces. I’m so happy to be giving these ones a home and stewarding them into the next generation of enjoyment!

Jo asked us to share our essential Christmas treats this year, called “afters” where she lives but we call dessert! For my family, on Christmas, it has to be cookies!! I always make at least 4 and sometimes up to 8 kinds! Plus there’s always a few special bought cookies! I shared my cookie plate last year so since I haven’t baked anything yet this year I’ll share it again…

On the top…the spritz cookies are with the red and green sprinkles and the cherry bits. In between are bought cookies: Trader Joe’s mini mint stars and baseler brunsli stars. On the bottom from left to right… fudge, snowballs, and pecan tassies. Yum!

We can’t have Christmas without Spritz, Pecan Tassies, snowballs (aka Mexican Wedding cakes or Russian Tea cakes) and Fudge! If I have time I also make peanut brittle, mint brownies, cut out sugar cookies, and gingerbread. If I’m very ambitious I’ll make peppernuts (pfeffernusse) from an old family recipe. If I am very very ambitious I might make a gingerbread house. I haven’t decided what of those extras I’ll do this year besides peanut brittle. But I do want to try a new thing and make toffee this year. Several of us love it and I hear it is not too hard.

For bought cookies I always get (from Trader Joe’s) the mini mint stars, which are like the old Girl Scout Thin Mints, and Lebkuchen. I need to scoot over there today to get those before they are sold out for the season! One year I drove 1 1/2 hours round trip to a different TJs when my local one was sold out of the mint stars, they are that important to my husband! I can’t always find the baseler brunsli but I’m quite fond of them if I do see a box in a specialty grocery.

So that’s all from me! If you are just joining the hop you can start at the beginning by heading back to Jo’s!

That is so special that your Grandmother stitched the ornaments and you Mom finished them, priceless! I love the Prairie Schooler Santa she made, it’s lovely as a pillow.
So many delicious treats! I actually got some cookies from TJ not too long ago, we like the peppermint “oreo” ones.
      Happy Christmas!

Lovely ornaments, and I’d sure love to try some of your cookies now! I wonder if your Baseler brunsli starts are similar to our cinnamon stars. Are they more nut-y or chocolate-y?

How very special to have your Grandmother’s stitching, lovely treasures. Your cookies look amazing, I make a Christmas cake but not many cookies, maybe this year I will make a few as I’m sure I have Christmas cutters in the drawer. Merry Christmas

Pretty stitched ornaments by your Grandmother, a real treasure to keep. I love the sheep best, they look darling. My approval of your yummy afters – all very tempting.

Hooray for the cookie tray! My favourite part of Christmas growing up. I agree on the TJs cookies as well. We always get the Joe-Joes as well. Our TJs tends to sell out of all the Christmas stuff after the first week of December, so it’s a trend. 🙂 Merry Christmas!
