Starting over

I am still here, on this earth, doing mostly the same stuff I was doing when I abandoned my blog for critical home projects a few months ago.

We have had a time of it. We had a broken pipe-caused flood in mid November. We moved out of our house the week before Christmas so the reconstruction work could begin. We were so blessed to be able to move into my in-law’s vacation home which is not too far away…about 20-25 min from our house which doubled the commute to the kids’ school to 30 minutes. Not terrible. We had our whole house replumbed so this will never happen again. That was a Big Job. We had all the damaged drywall removed. We had so many holes in the house I had a central vacuum installed (I love it! I never thought I would have one!). We had a nice but simple Christmas at my in-laws, and then first thing in the new year the packers came and packed out the entire contents of our house except the kitchen and office ( but in hindsight they should have done the kitchen too because it was all dusty mess and dust got everywhere even into the cabinets.) The drywall was repaired, all the whole house was repainted inside ceilings and everything, all the carpet in the whole house was replaced, and finally in mid February we moved back. In fact the week before we moved home we cleaned 2 houses top to bottom (my in laws and my own) and moved 3 times in 7 days…in laws house to rental house to hotel to home. That same week I had a tire blow out on the highway during one of the moves and we dealt with our second round of flu in 3 weeks. I truly felt like Job.

The work is not done yet, the original site of the disaster, my kids’ bathroom, still needs to be done and lots of touch up work. And there’s LOtS of unpacking. But it’s SO wonderful to have the new carpet and all the paint to enjoy in a freshened up home, and we are all healthy again and the car is fixed and things are looking up.

In the meantime baseball/softball season came into full swing so to speak with my 5 kids on 5 teams. I’m back at work at The Attic after a longish break to deal with the home chaos. And while my commute is much shorter to all my places from my own house as opposed to my in-laws (I was driving 2-3 hours a day getting everyone where they needed to go!) there’s a lot of busy-ness. So, there’s been no time to stitch. I haven’t stitched in a month or more, and the tidbits of stitching I did in January didn’t amount to anything really. I really wanted to do the WIPGO this year but haven’t succeeded. I might just start over with it. This month? I don’t know, we’ll see. I don’t quite have my stitching spot set yet and my stuff is still all packed.

Anyway here’s what I have worked on a bit since I last posted….

This is be Merry Birdie from Homespun Elegance, it was supposed to be my December small. I still haven’t put in the little background pattern. Maybe I won’t!
Anna Millet from Reflects de Soie stitched on 46 Overcast by Cedar River with Gloriana Luminescence in Thistle Green. It was supposed to be a page finish for the January WIPGO but I only did about half a page.
Flowers from Mary by La D Da…it is a kit that was a gift to me. Look how optimistic I am about finishing it this year!

It’s not much. Pretty disappointing actually to be 2 full months into the year and only have 2 tiny starts and another not-quite-finished to show for it, but hopefully that will turn around soon. It’s hard not to be excited about stitching with all the new Market releases! I have 2 things I’m especially excited about and we’ll see if I can get my mojo back with them!

Goal: 4 blog posts this month. Please come by again soon!
