A Small for August 2024

A Small for August 2024

For my August small I finished the funky birdy from Moments of Glad Grace by Blackbird Designs.

This past weekend we were camping and I finished it up in the beautiful cool air on top of Mt. Lemmon.

“We” includes me and my 5 children ages 6-16, a friend and her family with husband and 4 children ages 1-14, and 2 extra friend children (that’s 11 children and 3 adults), and 2 dogs…a geriatric dog who thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and a small yippy dog who was thoroughly pampered by my dog loving 12 year old who doesn’t have her own dog.

Maybe it’s comfortable if you are so furry?

The weather was nice, no one died (though the two 16 year old boys may have come close…are they exaggerating their mountain climbing story?) and we had a good escape from regular life. It was my 6 year old’s first camping and her evaluation was a good summary. “I need to go camping more often!” Me: “What was the best part?” Her: “Swinging in the hammock and the campfire.” Me: “What was the worst part?” Her: “The potty.”

Anyway, Dorcas doesn’t get to go camping so I got a small done and that was nice. I plan to mount it on a square box. I used the called for linen, Legacy from Picture This Plus, and threads. I wish the dyelots of my threads were a little more differentiated as it’s hard to see them well and the little branch is made up of 3 different colors. Oh well! It will look cute and prim on the box!

I forgot to show you one other thing I made last month…I got a wild hair and made an attempt at peyote stitch on a Fern Ridge kit that I’ve had a while.

I was putting some stuff away and came across the little kit…so there I was plopped down on my belly on the floor starting something new. I watched tutorial (is this REALLY how you do this?? Yes??? Ok then. Long threads it is.) It took me 2 sessions. The 2nd session, at the kitchen table, was infinitely easier, whether that was my position or slightly shorter threads or getting the hang of it I don’t know but it was a fun little kit. I will be making more of these. I have a few more, slightly larger kits from Fern Ridge.

Here is the link back to our Smalls Hostess…Thanks for hosting the Hop, Rachel!
