Shopping from Stash, BBD edition

I have been sick the last few days and with a fever and cold, I have been holed up in my room to protect my family from whatever my germs are. I am never bored in my room.

The hunt for something to stitch for the Blackbird Academy SAL had sent me down a seriously deep rabbit hole. I found so many smalls I liked from all the various BBD books and booklets, and thinking about it I realized, the reason I haven’t stitched these things is because kitting them might take longer than stitching them. Or at least be more bother! How to ever stitch all of these adorable projects?

Here’s an idea and I don’t know yet if it’s a good one…time will tell. First, I tagged all my favorite “must stitches” in the books.

Most all are small designs, not the main featured project. Among the projects there is a lot of repetition of color palette and even linen colors. I made a master list of the projects I’d tagged…flosses and linens plus the sizes needed. I hunted through my big bin o’floss to see what colors I had.

You can see it’s a chore to go through all the floss because it’s not organized . Someday I’ll solve that. So anyway, for now, I made a big BBD Palette Ring, with all the colors for all the projects in alphabetical order. Now I have one big palette for 10+ projects.

My next step was to go through my linen stash and see what I have that is called for, or close enough. I pulled those and cut them to the size needed for each project (let’s hope that wasn’t a big mistake!) Then, I filed the linens in page protectors with their patterns (which I copied out of the books as working copies). Next time I’m out, I’ll find a cute binder for them. Grab a pattern/linen packet and the master floss ring, and the project is ready to go. I’m hoping the ease of this grab and go system will speed up my project starting, if not completion, but in the meantime it certainly gives a big sense of accomplishment!

We’ll see how “Bird Month” goes for the Blackbird Academy SAL, but maybe I can squeeze in an extra BBD small regularly, like once a month, if I have them ready to go. I hope my next problem will be how to FFO all the stitching I plan to accomplish!
